What We Do
The CSTA was formed in 2017 by a group of concerned residents to insure that the people living at 27 Charter Street were treated fairly and equally in their dealings with the Salem Housing Authority and Public Housing policies. The Board of Directors hold an Open Meeting every other month to listen to residents’ concerns and to formulate possible solutions and plan a course of action.
The CSTA is also unique among other tenant associations in the area in that it also functions as a social organization, offering a series of potluck and catered dinners throughout the year. We also sponsor day trips to local attractions and events, sponsor Game Days, a Friday Breakfast Club and entertainment events.
Additionally, we have a roster of ongoing service providers; a hair stylist, guest speakers and the Salem State Nursing Students, who provide weekly health and safety checks to residents. We also maintain a fund for residents that find themselves in need of temporary assistance.
In addition to funds provided to the Association by the government, the CSTA conducts fundraisers throughout the year which pays for activities outside those governed by the Salem Housing Authority.
“I appreciate everything that the Tenant Association does for the residents at 27 Charter Street. Because of them, my life here is fuller and a lot more fun!”
— Charter Street resident since 2021
